Class Descriptions

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Providers

The American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) classes are the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. These classes teaches both single-rescuer and team-based basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings. BLS is for any healthcare provider or first-responder who needs to know how to perform CPR. There are 3 different BLS classes to choose from: BLS for Healthcare Providers, BLS Renewal, and Heartcode BLS Skills Session.

BLS for Healthcare Providers

The AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is the starting class for healthcare providers or first responders who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.  If you have not taken a BLS class previously, or have an expired certification, this is the class you need.

BLS Renewal

The AHA BLS Renewal class is an accelerated renewal course is for healthcare providers or first-responders who have BLS experience and need to recertify. If you certification has expired, you will need to retake the BLS for Healthcare Providers starting class. 

Heartcode BLS Skills Session

The AHA's Heartcode BLS Skills Session is the second part of a blended-learning format.  Students complete the online portion through the AHA (https://onlineaha.org/courses/84) that includes eSimulations and other interactive activities. Once the online portion is completed, they attend this classroom-based training session featuring discussion, skills practice, and testing. 

 

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

ACLS builds on the foundation of lifesaving basic life support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). There are 3 different ACLS classes: ACLS Providers, ACLS Update, Heartcode ACLS Skills Session

ACLS Providers

The AHA's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider class is for healthcare providers who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies.  Before taking the ACLS course, students must pass the online ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment with a score of 70% or higher.   If you have not taken an ACLS class previously, or have an expired certification, this is the class you need. 

ACLS Update

$125.00

The AHA's ACLS Update class is a renewal class for healthcare providers who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. Before taking the ACLS Update class, students must pass the online ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment with a score of 70% or higher. This Update class is for experienced ACLS providers that need to re-certify. If you certifications has expired, you will need to retake the ACLS Provider class. 

Heartcode ACLS Skills Session

The AHA's Heartcode ACLS Skills Session is the second part of a blended-learning format. Students complete the online portion through the AHA (https://www.onlineaha.org/courses/85) that includes eSimulations and other interactive activities. Once the online portion is completed, students attend this classroom-bases training session featuring discussion, skills practice and testing.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The goal of the American Heart Association's PALS classes are to improve the care provided to seriously ill or injured children. The PALS classes use a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. There are 3 different PALS classes available: PALS Provider, PALS Update, and Heartcode PALS Skills Session.

PALS Provider

The PALS Provider class is designed for healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients.  Students complete the entire course in a video-based classroom session which covers course content, skills practice, and testing.  This class is for students that have not taken PALS previously or for those with an expired PALS certification.

PALS Update

The PALS Update Class is designed for healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the managment of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arres in pediatric patients. Students complete the update course in a video-based classroom  which covers course content, skills practice, and testing. The class is for students that have received a PALS certification in the past two years. Students with expired certifications will need to attend the PALS Provider class. 

Heartcode PALS Skills Session

The AHA's Heartcode PALS Skills Session is the second portion of a blended learning program that combines self-paced online training with an Instructor-Led skills session. Students first learn the course content online using HeartCode PALS (https://www.onlineaha.org/courses/101).  After passing the online exam, students attend the skills session that includes video-based skills practice, debriefing, and skills testing. The Heartcode class is available to first time or returning PALS students.

Heartsaver Classes

The AHA's Heartsaver® classes are flexible for companies and employees in industries, such as; security, law enforcement, state correctional facilities, colleges and universities, hospitality, health and fitness, property management, construction, occupational and environmental health, safety, child care, manufacturing, education -- and any others where having trained lay responders may prove invaluable for the safety of customers and employees. Classes can be taken together or separately.

First Aid CPR AED

The Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED course is designed to prepare students to provide First Aid CPR AED in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency. This class can be divided up as only First Aid or only CPR AED. 

CPR AED

The First Aid CPR AED class can be broken down into only First Aid or only CPR AED depending upon your needs.  This Heartsaver® CPR AED course is designed to prepare students to provide CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. 

First Aid

The Heartsaver® First Aid course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. 

First Aid CPR AED Skills Session

Students first learn the course content online using Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Online (https://elearning.heart.org/course/9).They then attend a hands-on session focused on skills practice and testing. The online portion allows students to complete exercises and learn at their own pace. The hands-on session allows time for practice and discussion. The skills sessions can be completed as First Aid CPR AED or separately for students that only require CPR AED or First Aid. 

Pediatric First Aid CPR AED

The Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED class teaches students to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant until professional help arrives. The course is intended for those involved in child care who have a duty to respond to children's health emergencies, including child-care workers, teachers, foster-care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations, and coaches. This course is also ideal for parents, grandparents, babysitters, and guardians. 

Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Skills Session

The AHA offers blended learning that combines self-paced online training with hands-on skills practice and testing. Students first learn the course content online using Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid Online (https://elearning.heart.org/course/16) They then attend the hands-on session focused on skills practice and testing. The online portion allows students to complete exercises and learn at their own pace. The hands-on skills session allows time for practice and discussion.

Family and Friends CPR

The Family and Friends CPR course is intended for anyone who wants to learn CPR and prefers to learn in an Instructor-led or facilitated group environment. This course is for people who do not need a course completion card for a job or other requirements. The course is ideal for community groups, parents, grandparents, caregivers, school groups, and others interested in learning how to save a life.
